Top 5 smoothie bowls - Bali style!

This top 5 kind of had to happen; we had way more than five bowls during our eleven day trip, all with a variety of textures, flavours and qualities. Just in case you’re looking for smoothie bowl inspiration, or are planning a trip to Bali yourself, here’s my pick of the best. Where possible I’ve given email addresses and websites, but one thing about Bali is, it’s not the most on-it when it comes to social media and websites. But I guess that’s part of the attraction when you're looking for a break from the usual.
A real bowl of sunshine - loved it

#1 Sisterfields’ Acai Berry Bowl, 100k IDR ( about £6.25 or US$7.67)
I could write an entire blog about our two trips to Sisterfields in Seminyak. If you love fresh, flavoursome food then you have to visit this place; brekkie, brunch, dinner – whenever!
Anyway, back to the bowl; The smoothie base is made with almond milk and is icy fresh thanks to frozen blueberries and banana, but what really makes it stand out – aside from the beautiful presentation – is the texture. Coco nibs and Goji berry granola add an extra level of enjoyment that easily beats the other bowls on this list. It’s a smoothie bowl and then some; each mouthful offers up a different flavour combination, and the addition of coffee honey makes it thoroughly addictive.

Just SO good...

#2 In The Raw, 1st Love Bowl, 89k IDR (about £5.55 or US$6.82)
What I loved most about this acai, papaya, banana and berry bowl was the fact that we could tailor it to our own tastes, from a menu of several additions. I chose sweet and juicy tangerines, cinnamon granola (they usually make their own in-house but that day we had to choose from a ready-made organic range) and coconut. I also liked that coconut water was used to get the consistency right, which gave it a lighter, fresher taste. Loved the decor too.

Cafe Organic's Acai Coco Bowl

Cafe Organic's Acai Coco Bowl

#3 Café Organic, Acai Coco Bowl, 60k IDR (about £3.74 or US$4.60)
Café Organic was another of our faves on the trip; although, for us, they seemed to have too much of a fondness for cloves when it came to their hot food offerings (sorry guys), their bowls and juices were some of the best we had throughout our hols. I particularly became addicted to their fresh sugarcane juice, which proved to be a great buy when it came to staying hydrated at the beach or by the pool. This bowl is served in a coconut shell and features passion fruit, strawberries and shredded coconut.

Bro Resto's super filling bowl

Bro Resto's super filling bowl

#4 Bro Resto, Berry Bowl, price unknown
Unfortunately I can’t find any menu info for Bro, but I had to include them because it was such a chilled place to hang out and eat. Bro’s bowl (which I believe was berry-based rather than the usual acai, but I could be wrong) was the only bowl that didn’t include any frozen elements. Instead, fresh bananas and berries were blended up, making for a really filling bowl that carried us until lunch.

bali avocado cafe

#5 Avocado, Acai Banana Bowl, 85k IDR (about £5.31 or US$6.52)
This is the place to go if you want to really be a perfectionist about what you put into your body. That being said, this one was more for the BF than me. I think it was most likely due to the fact that this was our first meal after such a long flight, so my body was probably craving all kinds of comfort. Instead this was more of a simple, unfussy take on the smoothie bowl. For us, it was definitely the best thing on the menu at the super popular Avocado. They’re also known for fitness holidays, so if you’re completely uninterested in anything sweat-related, you’d best check out my previous four mentions, or try the one below.**

**An honourable mention has to go to Deus Ex Machina – tasted amazing, and should probably go ahead of Bro and Avocado, but, I didn’t take any photographs. Doh. Check it out at Jalan Kayu Aya No.18C, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung – you won’t regret it!
