Review: Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara and Primer
Sheesh, it’s been a while! I’ve been working over at All The Pretty Birds for six months now, and am also working on my photographic exhibition - up in December, eek! Oh and my podcast launched. I would love it if you could check out @beautymepodcast; I have some amazing guests lined up so I hope you can tune in. No matter how distracted i’ve been, I’ve still been spending time - and money, obvs - on beauty. I wanted to wait a while to share my thoughts on the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara, because there’s sooo much hype around this product and I wanted to give you my complete feedback. I also bought the Velvet Epic Lash Primer…
The Look
I really like the feel of these two products, and, to be honest, I’m kinda digging just about everything about Marc Jacobs Beauty products and packaging right now. Although these are the only two items I’ve purchased so far, I am forever checking out the amazing makeup artist Morgane Martini’s Instagram; she’s the brand’s Global Artistry Ambassador and shares a new look/product just about every day. The reason I opted for these two over all of the stunning eye products on offer, is because, I’m a mascara junkie. I’m a repeat offender; the minute a tube is done I already have two or three ready to take its place. While I tend to go back to my fave L’Oréal Lash Architect 4D Mascara over and over, I just find it necessary to stay aware of what else is out there in the mascara world! I’d seen many of my fave makeup artists using the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara, including Katie Jane Hughes and the stunning Celine Bernaerts, so I thought it was time to invest. I like how the packaging is stylish but not too delicate; the geometric shape reminds me of Fenty products, but it also makes it easier to find in your makeup bag when you’re in a rush.
The Feel
So for the first week, I just focused on using the mascara, in my usual way. I’m a standard three coats per day type of girl, but I actually find two coats is more than enough for creating the long, dramatic look that I love. It obviously worked because while I was at London Fashion Week and also at a hair salon, I was asked several times about which mascara I was using, and if my lashes were real. The following week, I got to work with the Primer. To be honest, in the past, I've found lash primers to be a bit of waste of cash and a bit of a faff. However, with this primer, you can easily get away with just one coat of mascara afterwards. The best way to use it is to really take time to get into the lashes with it, and then leave it for a few minutes, like, make a cup of tea or focus on the rest of your face for a while. I find leaving it alone for a couple of minutes really helps to hold the mascara. Together, they’re great, but I’m definitely not here to tell you you must buy the primer. However, I am telling you you should buy the mascara! I think it’s a great formula for anyone who wants length, thickness and volume; the brush gets pretty loaded though, so pay attention before you swipe. All in all, it’s definitely going to be a repeat purchase for me.
