My fave makeup artists on Instagram right now

Wow, how did it get to the second week of April and no blog? Well, that might be because I just joined All The Pretty Birds as a Photography and Writing Contributor (whut, whut!), but also, I’m busier than ever. And believe me, that is not a humble brag; it’s the truth. I’m working on some seriously exciting projects that I can’t wait to share.
Until then, I wanted to go back to what I love, which is mostly talking about other people who inspire me, so, below I’ve focused on my favourite makeup artists on Instagram right now. In no particular order, meet Katie, Celine and Danessa!

Katie Jane Hughes
Style:
Dewy, glossy, wet-look - basically, ain’t nothin’ matte about Katie Jane Hughes. Head to Katie’s Instagram and you will see that every single look she serves starts with an illuminated base. Yes, Katie does know her way around a powder pot, but she prefers to use it like an artist would, only on the areas that she wants to play down.

For my contour queens, Katie is a refreshing antidote to that almost muddy look that’s going around, but she’s never snobby about her style, technique or opinion. Katie’s comments are FULL of thank you’s and ‘yes, glossy eyes of my dreams,’ because she’s the perfect example of someone who sees themselves as being part of a community, not just being one of the chosen few. I love her (and am trying to get an interview with her as we speak [insert praying hands emoji here]). Be warned, your bank balance will take a bashing once you become addicted to Katie’s stories, but hey, she’s worth every penny.

Her Highlights could easily be Pay Per View and her Classic Liner one is GOLD.

Celine Bernaerts

Style: No rules! Celine is a badass but oh-so-chic while she does it. She shares the most exquisite makeup creations, and clearly spends time on creating and refining her content. Celine is a YSL Beauty ambassador but she shares all the brands that she loves, and in particular I love how she’s made me want to experiment with blush again. What I also love, is that Celine is comfortable with sharing her flaws. It’s easy to become jealous/insecure when we see these gorgeous Insta-beats, but seeing someone’s naked skin always helps us to see what’s real.

Her bleached eyebrows remove the ‘frame’ that having defined eyebrows gives. This leads to so many wonderful experiments, including her application of blush and/or eyeshadow up and around the temples and onto the forehead.

Danessa Myricks

Style: Sculpted and FLAWLESS. Whatever your skin colour, if you love makeup, you cannot NOT follow Danessa Myricks! She’s like an alchemist and a magician all in one - did I say she has her own range that other makeup artists are obsessed with and that she does her own photography much of the time? Danessa is also someone who loves to educate, so you’ll often find her taking part in international makeup shows - I definitely want to know when her next UK appearance is happening!
