Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Review
If you know me, you’ll know I have a real love affair with Glossier, as in, it’s one that’s as tumultuous as any relationship you might see in an over-the-top film noir. The Perfecting Skin Tint? Deeply lacking when it comes to pigment. The Balm Dotcom - give me all of them! The fragrance - You - way too much for me. But the Milky Jelly Cleanser? I think it’s love.
It’s taken me a long time to order Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser - mostly because I’ve had a few to get through. Over the past four months my cleansers have become more gentle, as the rest of my regime has toughened up, via acid exfoliants and treatments. Now I start with an oil cleanse (if I’ve had a long day or worn makeup), followed by a gentle gel cleanser. I’ve literally just finished my Melvita Organic Cleansing Jelly - amazing stuff that lasts forever and is so, so gentle - and after talking to She Of The Glass Skin, AKA Dr Ewoma Ukeleghe I thought it was time to try Glossier. In my interview with Ewoma (which you can and should read here) she described Milky Jelly Cleanser as ‘nothing-ness and everything-ness’ and, now that I’ve tried it for myself, I totally get what she meant!
So far I’ve only used it as a morning cleanse - it’s perfect for waking up skin after an overnight mask. Described as a conditioning face wash, the product ingredients start with water (always good), followed by Rose Damascena Flower Water (also a main ingredient in my Melvita fave) and include Glycerin (an age-old humectant, i.e, it attracts moisture to the skin), Sodium Hyaluronate - the big sister of Hyaluronic Acid - and skin-smoothing Allantoin (found in urine and plants - totally explains why some mothers still choose to wipe their baby’s face with a wet nappy! I’ve seen the glowing effects so they must be onto something, right?).
At first squirt there’s the almost negligible fragrance of the rose water, and it’s immediately cooling on the skin. I love that it’s a real jelly, rather than those products labelled jelly that then proceed to run all over your hand before you’ve even managed to emulsify the product. I also love the texture - it doesn’t lather so you’re able to really spread the product across the face, before simply rinsing it off. My skin definitely felt smooth and calm. Like Dr Ewoma says; it won’t cure your acne, but it will treat your skin gently. I also tried this product on my face when it was dry and left it on for a while. I did this because I could well imagine this product morphing into an additional serum later on. It gave a nice sheen but of course, felt a little sticky because duh, it’s meant to be washed off!
In short, I really love Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser as an addition to any regime that’s pretty intense, but it would also be great for those with sensitive skin, because it’s really, really, gentle.
£15 for the 177ml bottle
