Makeup artist Tatiana Rose explains her love for disco

You know when you’re scrolling through Instagram and you’re just floored by what you see? That’s how I felt when I saw the work of makeup artist Tatiana Rose. I can’t even remember how I came across Tatiana, but it was a case of an immediate follow. I couldn’t stop looking at this stunning disco eye she’d created (below), and I knew she was someone that I had to interview. Unfortunately (for me) Tatiana’s based in Australia, so we had to do an email thing – read on to find out her skincare routine and what’s next in beauty.

How long have you been making faces?
I’ve been doing makeup for around six years. I really started to pursue it when I started my Instagram account. I was/am a dancer but I’ve also always loved makeup art; I wanted to do it as soon as I found out you could do it as a career!

loved the disco-esque looks that you recently shared on Instagram - where did you find the inspiration behind them?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been more inspired by the eras that have passed. They hold such a timeless quality to me and so much glamour. I’ve been obsessed with disco since I was younger, and it’s always been a time in fashion that I thought was so cool, so I love to incorporate it into my work now.

Would you say you have a signature aesthetic?
I’m not sure I do. I guess there’s definitely a vintage feel (especially in the photography) but I wouldn’t say it’s my only thing. I’m definitely someone who enjoys a lot of styles and I’m always adapting, trying to create as much art in all aesthetics.

Who’s makeup would you love to do?
That’s so hard! There’s honestly too many to name. So many interesting and beautiful people I’d love to create with.

How would you go about creating a five-minute daytime look?
I would start by picking two or three features that you know you love to have made up and do those first. Whether it’s a brow, lip and a quick liner, or just mascara and concealer. Once those main features are done you’ll instantly feel more put together, and won’t have to spend much time on anything else.

What’s your go-to night-time glam look?
I would usually always add a lip on a night-time look! I change up the colour all the time; I love bright or vampy reds, and deep rosy pinks. I’ve been loving Melt Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks. And for extra glam I like to pop on a pair of lashes; House of Lashes Faux Mink Lashes are so gorgeous –  I love all the styles.

Three products you can’t live without?
Tinted moisturiser with SPF! I have one from Mecca Cosmetica that I’m loving at the moment. Eyebrows most definitely - I’ve been using the Kat Von D Signature Brow Precision Pencils. And my Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask – I swear this product is heaven.

What do your AM and PM beauty routines look like?
I do most of my skincare at night so in the mornings I tend to just spritz my face with a facial spray – I don’t have a preferred one at the moment – then I go in with a moisturiser and SPF. I love the Ole Henriksen C Rush Brightening Gel Créme, it’s so good under makeup. At night I cleanse my skin with a makeup remover, then wash with a gentle facial soap (I’ve been using Cetaphil for ages). I’ve stopped using exfoliating scrubs and only do chemical exfoliators now, like the Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic – it makes a huge difference. I use my Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Créme around my eyes, then I go in with my night moisturiser quite heavily – I’m loving Drunk Elephant products lately. Then it’s my beloved Bite Beauty Lip Mask on the lips! I’ve learned that less skincare works better for me, but every now and then I change up or add products. I like to do a lot of masking too!

What’s your 2019 beauty prediction?
I hope there’s more colour! More playing by adding one shade across the entire lid or as liner. Different blush colours – coloured lashes! There are so many ways to experiment with colour in a subtle but exciting way.
